Lansdowne Roofing Supplies (UK) Ltd was formed in the early part of the 1990s, it was proceeded by A Whitehead & Sons Slate Merchants. The original business was born in the early 1960’s, where Alan Whitehead spotted an opportunity through working in the demolition industry of salvaging the roof covering from the various clearance operations around the district.

His vision was surely these fabulous natural products could be salvaged and reused. Out of this was born the reclaimed roof slate business in the area with materials then being shipped all around the country. The art of reclaiming the roof slate is basically the same after all these years, with obviously reforms in the health and safety upgrades along the way.

We as a company have keep the same principles of the work carried out with sons Sean and Danny carrying on the traditions. We are the first port of call within the process of the salvage. We still work with many demolish companies throughout the country specialising in state removal from their projects. Modern times

Today we are stationed at Lansdowne Road, Chadderton, Oldham. The half-acre site is a slate man’s haven, with everything needs to satisfy your slate requirements!

From Welsh Slate to Cornish, Spanish, Burlington, Westmorland and more we have everything! Special dimensions can be cut to size with our 19th Century traditional slate cutter, which is still used on an industrial scale, when slates need to be redressed.

Tarred Slate

As far as we are aware, we are the only slate merchant in the country who can fully recover tarred over slate back into fully clean faced slate. This has come about with 40 years of trail and error, to finally crack the process, where we are able to fully recover the slate.

Setting the standard

Lansdowne continue to set the standard with stripping work and always strive to provide the best prices on slate nationwide. We do this based on the traditions and principles set in the early 1960’s which we still adhere to and implement today.
